During a full service, the lens is partially or fully disassembled depending on the design and condition. Old grease and contaminants are removed from the focusing helicoid and mechanical assemblies, and the focusing mechanism is relubricated with modern lubricants to restore smooth, even rotation.
The aperture mechanism is cleaned and inspected to ensure the blades open and close quickly and consistently. Any oil or residue affecting the aperture system is carefully removed, and the aperture ring is checked for proper detents and operation.
